My definition of the American Dream includes going after or having the chance to attempt to go after your goals. My definition does not, however, include that people will receive an equal chance. It simply applies there may be a greater and more encourages atmosphere in America that inspires people to go after their dreams. Although I believe this attitude will and has declined and increased during different times of history. Lastly an important phrase often associated with, and included in my definition of the American Dream is "Manifest Destiny." I think it is important to add because the term has had such a profound impact on the development of out nation.
Manifest Dynasty coined by John L. O'Sullivan
- Manifest Destiny is a term for the attitude prevalent during the 19th century period of American expansion that the United States not only could, but was destined to, stretch from coast to coast.
Westward expansion/ Manifest Destiny led to and/or increased the invention of numerous railways/ steam engines, telegrams, barbwire, a new design of couch wagon, steel plow and other things. Manifest Destiny also led to an increase in human liberty as America sought to spread freedom and democracy throughout North America and beyond.

The American Dream must be so strong. People must have been crazy to risk there lives in the rough Atlantic Ocean. The American Spirit must have been tremendously motivating and inspiring.
